"OneMix 4" review.

UMPC maker, a problematic work of "De-UMPC".

China One-Netbook's new mobile PC "OneMix 4 (Platinum Edition)", which manufactures and develops a small mobile PC called UMPC, was borrowed from Tech One, an authorized distributor in Japan, so I will review it.

I like UMPC, so what is it like? I was worried. Also, I love the 8.9-inch "Magic-Ben MAG1", so I was looking forward to reviewing this 10.1-inch machine, which is similar in size.

Metal housing made of aluminum alloy for CNC machined 6000 series aircraft. It has a very high quality feel to it. Moderately Zusshiri. The OneMix 3 Pro weighed 680g, while this machine weighed 770g . It will increase the weight by about 90g. It has a moderate weight and is luxurious enough. I like the gadget. It may be easier to imagine the size when you line up with the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

In terms of size, it is considerably smaller than a typical laptop PC such as a MacBook. It is slightly larger than Magic-Ben MAG1, which seems to have been classified as UMPC at the last minute. I believe that finding a bag that fits perfectly is the key to acceptance and loyal use.

The OneMix series has been equipped with a separate power button and fingerprint authentication. It was placed on the keyboard. However, in OneMix 4, by placing the power button with built-in fingerprint authentication sensor on the side and putting it together neatly, the keyboard is improved while supporting Windows Hello.

The position of the Tab key that was dissatisfied with OneMix 3 Pro has been improved. It is also a nice point that there is a Shift key on the right side and there are hyphens and + in the number row. However, there is still a step to go, such as there is no right Ctrl, but it is a big improvement from the conventional model.

The key pitch is 18.5mm. Although the space between the keys is narrow and the space between them is small, the keys themselves are large. Keystrokes are deep and elastic. There is also a backlight. To be honest, I feel that it is very easy to hit when thinking of it as an extension of UMPC.

The touchpad has a unique feel when you slide your finger on it . It's different from just a board or a ThinkPad's silky and matte feel, and it seems that there are some differences in taste. The conventional OneMix series is an optical pointer and I personally felt that it was quite difficult to use, so the fact that the wide touchpad is arranged makes a big difference in ease of use . I think it's perfect for people who were dissatisfied with the operation system of previous models, or for those who are switching from the MAG1.

What is surprising is the picture frame of the screen. Insanely thin! It seems that it can be said that the enlargement of the housing is suppressed for a large screen of 10.1 inches. With this screen size and touch panel, it is good for reading e-books such as Kindle. You can read comics on the big screen.

When closed, the key input error cancellation works, but there were times when it did not work. This is a trial machine and may behave differently than the production version. The touchpad part can be disabled manually.

This style unique to Yoga style is also possible. The hinge part is also solid, and the angle retention and body retention are perfect .

It's also great for watching videos. The speaker and sound quality are not so different from MAG1, neither good nor bad. The volume is about the same and quiet.

The display is an LTPS liquid crystal. The viewing angle of the screen does not change the colors when viewed from an angle, but it feels a little darker than when viewed from the front. Is it a machine that emphasizes productivity, not focused on viewing by a large number of people? It also supports pen pressure sensing stylus. Photoshop and CLIPSTUDIO also work. I also drew the cover image for this article.

It's not a game machine, but let's check the performance and specifications. OneMix 4 can be selected from the normal model with Intel Core i5-1130G7 and the " Platinum Edition " with Core i7-1160G7. The trial machine is the latter.

Below are the benchmark results. Please note that this is a trial machine, so the results may differ from the product version.

  • Dragon Quest X benchmark standard quality HD window: 7413 points
  • Dragon Quest X benchmark highest quality FHD full screen: 5651 points
  • Cinebench R23 multi-core: 2225 points
  • Cinebench R20: 1410 points

To make it easier to compare with the previous model OneMix 3 Pro, I tried to arrange the software used. Only in the Dragon Quest benchmark, although the score is almost the same at standard quality/HD operation, the score at highest quality/FHD has increased by more than 2000 points, and Cinebench R20, which quantifies CPU processing performance, also showed a large increase.

With such power, you can do anything. Personally, I don't think I'll be playing games even if I buy this machine, but I'm happy that it's possible to log in to VRSNS for a short time in desktop mode, such as when staying at a travel destination . There is one USB Type-C terminal on the right side and two on the left side. Charging from the left side.

The battery capacity is 10000mAh, which is significantly more than OneMix 3. It has a huge capacity. Charging time is required for this size, but it also supports 45W fast charging. Cheap UMPCs and older models can be clunky around charging, and charging speeds may be slow or general-purpose chargers that are not accessories may not be compatible, but the fact that they are USB-PD is also a nice point. In fact, it was possible to charge about 90% in 2 hours . It seems that it can be operated without difficulty.

I'm pretty envious of the OneMix4, which has an even better keyboard than my favorite 8.9-inch UMPC, the MAG1.

On the other hand, the weight is quite heavy, so it is about to reach the area where it competes with notebook PCs, which is annoying. As an extreme example, there are 13.3-inch 600g Fujitsu LIFEBOOK UH series. This machine has the advantage of being able to fit in a small bag and be carried casually, so finding the perfect bag will be a key point in choosing this machine.

I think there are pros and cons about breaking out of the UMPC shell, but 10-inch PCs are pretty empty, aren't they? A high-performance, productive machine should be a 13-inch or larger mobile notebook. Speaking of 10 inches, the Surface Go series is also available, but the performance and productivity are honest.

In this nuanced area with many models, I am positive about the fact that the emerging One-Netbook will hit the ground running with the powerful OneMix4 while inheriting the technology and advantages cultivated in the OneMix series. As an extension of the UMPC, the weight of the OneMix4, which has a keyboard and high performance, is about the same as a Surface Go 2 with a Type Cover .

If I were to choose a PC from 10 inches, I would definitely choose OneMix4. If the priority is for multimedia use, a good laptop with a wider viewing angle and better speaker sound quality, or even a tablet, would be an option, but my priority is productivity, so the OneMix4 is the best choice. Most influential. In terms of mobile, it's a so-called "subnote".

However, in terms of productivity use, it should be noted that it is not equipped with an in-camera, so it cannot be used alone for remote work such as Zoom. Personally, I'm almost never forced to use the in-camera, so I don't feel it's a problem, and I feel that it's better to have a bezel-less, cool, and highly portable camera. If the One-Netbook trades off narrow bezels and demand for remote work, it might have to put a pop-up in-camera in the function key row like the Huawei MateBook X Pro. Is it too costly?

For the time being, the current solution is to set conference software such as Zoom so that the smartphone camera can be used as the PC in-camera, or to do it on the smartphone side from the beginning. Overall, it was surprisingly good. especially the keyboard. I was really excited about the OneGx1, so I had high hopes for the OneMix4, but it was pretty good.

One-Netbook Inc. is attacking adjacent fields with OneMix 4. I would like to expect further progress. Of course, as a result of this breakthrough, I would be happy if a new UMPC was released. I think that Japanese mobile users, myself included, are looking forward to the release of a landscape UMPC like the VAIO Type P, which was designed with the keyboard as the top priority. It would be nice if there were various models. OneMix 4 domestic regular version is scheduled to be delivered after the end of April at the time of article publication, and reservations are currently being accepted.
