Dyson Purifier Humidify+Cool PH03 Reviews

I bought Dyson's Purifier Humidify+Cool PH03, that is, a humidifying air purifying fan last year and used it for a year, so I will review it.

Why Dyson

Humidifiers are sold by many manufacturers, and some of the cheap ones are sold for thousands of yen. However, it does not mean that the humidifier should be able to humidify. To that end, I would like to explain the humidification method first.

Humidification method

There are mainly 5 types of humidification methods. There are five types: ultrasonic type, steam type, vaporization type, hybrid (warm air vaporization) type, and hybrid (heating ultrasonic wave) type.

Ultrasonic type vibrates water with ultrasonic waves and releases it into the air as a mist. Because of its low power consumption and simple structure, many inexpensive products use this ultrasonic method. However, the ultrasonic method has disadvantages, such as the fact that the bacteria in the water are released as they are, and the bleaching powder and minerals in the water are also sprayed as they are, which may damage the machineAs a writer who owns many gadgets, I definitely want to avoid the ultrasonic type.

The steam type is a method that heats water and releases the steam to humidify. There is no need to worry about releasing bacteria because it is heated, and it has the advantage of quickly moistening the room. The disadvantage is that it costs electricity because it heats up, and there is a risk of burns when using it at a short distance. The maximum power consumption of the product pasted below is over 900W. After reading the review, it consumes around 400W even after boiling. I removed it this time because I want to avoid the risk of falling and getting burned because I am careless, and I want to reduce the electricity bill. However, if you buy it normally, this is a cheap and fast iron plate.

The vaporization method is a method of humidifying by blowing air on a filter that has been permeated with water and vaporizing it. When it evaporates, it becomes very small water vapor particles, so it does not release bacteria, and the electricity bill is cheap, so Sharp and Panasonic's humidifying air purifiers use this method. Disadvantages are that the operation sound is correspondingly noisy and the body size tends to be large because it is necessary to apply the wind.

And the hybrid (warm air vaporization) type is a combination of the steam method and the vaporization method. This method evaporates water by applying warm air to a filter that has been impregnated with water. It does not release germs, it quickly moisturizes, and there is no need to worry about burns.

As the name suggests, the heating ultrasonic type is a hybrid type that heats water and performs ultrasonic humidification. Although the risk of germs is reduced by heating the water, there is no room for consideration because the risk of the ultrasonic method remains.

In conclusion, I decided to choose an evaporative humidifier.

Selection of humidifier

When I purchased a humidifier, I looked for it under the following conditions.

  • to be fashionable
  • be easy to clean
  • You can see your status on your smartphone

If you put it in your room, it's better to be fashionable. I want to choose a stylish humidifier that I want to keep all year round.

be easy to clean. This was a must. I used to use Sharp's humidifying air purifier, but the humidifying part was extremely difficult to clean. Dust enters through the gaps, and dirt is removed while removing the dust. I stopped using it because I didn't like cleaning the dirt and the gaps.

You can check the status on your smartphone. I think that I want to connect it to the network in the IoT era. Connected devices are more fun than unconnected devices, aren't they? Maybe it's just geeks.

Balmuda's humidifier, Rain, which recently caused a stir in the smartphone industry, is a very interesting product. A novel design that does not have a water tank and pours water into a pot-like product. Moreover, there is an organic EL display in the center where the water is poured, and the operation is performed by tracing the edge of the “pot”. The humidification method adopts the vaporization method. The app also supports operation, so it's a rule! I thought it was fleeting. Apparently the network connection model was discontinued a year ago. Models that do not support network will continue to be sold. Is it okay for a company that makes smartphones?

Dyson's Purifier Humidify Cool was too expensive and I hadn't even considered it, but the Yodobashi Camera store clerk approached me, and when I expressed my dissatisfaction with the humidifier, he demonstrated it with PH03. Maintenance is OK. Refilling water is easy. I already used the app, so I knew how useful it would be. While listening to the story, I thought that this was the only one, so I bought it at Yodobashi Camera. More on that later.

exterior

The appearance is very simple. The height is 92cm and the depth is 31.2c The middle part of the main unit has a power button, a maintenance button, and a liquid crystal display.

The liquid crystal display can display the wear condition of the filter, the concentration of harmful substances in the air, and the temperature and humidity. The upper part of the main unit has a magnet type so that the remote control can be placed.

Conventional Dyson fans used to send air from an elliptical gap, but this product has something like a general looper on the front part, and it is a mechanism that changes the blowing direction based on this. .

Also, in diffused mode, the front blower part is stored and the wind is blown from the back. The side part is equipped with a sensor for measuring air pollution concentration in the air

Removing the filter is very easy. When the triggers on the left and right are lowered at the same time, it is called "gachan", and at the same time as the air cleaning filter is removed. A door opens to access the humidifying filter inside. The flow of this series is very smooth and cool, and it touches the hearts of men

Similarly, the tank at the bottom can be easily removed by pulling down the triggers on the left and right. Then remove it to slide. When you lift the edge, it transforms into a handle that is very easy to carry. Moreover, it locks when you lift it, so you don't have to hang around while moving. The tank part has a large diameter so that it is easy to clean. It is very easy to fill with water as the mouth is wide.

sense of use

I have used it for about a month.

good animation

When operated with the remote control, information is displayed on the display provided on the front of the main unit. Real-time display of PM2.5, PM10, VOC (volatile organic compounds), NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), temperature and humidity in the air. Since it is constantly monitored, if there is an abnormality in the air, an animation of a sudden rise in PM2.5 will be displayed on the information display, and the rotation speed of the fan will increase.

In addition, the movement and the animation of the display are tightly linked, which tickles the chef's heart. When changing to the diffused mode described later, the front duct is retracted and the wind is sent from the back with an animation that changes the direction of the wind backwards. Cool! !

Convenient diffused mode

Dyson's bladeless model blows air from the front, so isn't it cold in the winter? It seems, but the model of the last few years has a diffused mode.

This is a mode that circulates the wind by sending it to the back instead of sending it from the front. It can circulate the air in the room without direct wind, so it can be used comfortably even in winter.

On the contrary, since the air in the room circulates in a good way, before using it, only one part of the room was exposed to the air from the air conditioner and the part without the air was cold. The air in the room circulated thanks to the diffused mode, which warmed the whole room. It also functions as a circulator.

Easy and cool tank

The water tank is very comfortable. Many domestic manufacturers have a handle on the top of the water tank and a water supply port on the bottom. Although it was easy to remove, there were many products that were not considered afterward. It takes some force to open and close the cap. your hands will get wet. I thought it couldn't be helped.

When Dyson releases the left and right locks, the tank protrudes, and when you slide it as it is and remove it, the handle is on the top. Just bring it to the tap and remove the large top lid. The lid has a gasket, so even the weak can easily remove it. The water supply port is large enough to fit your smartphone, so you don't have to worry about spilling it. When the water supply is over, tighten the lid and click OK. No need to flip it upside down. Slide to the main body and finish with installation. It's very easy.

It is also good that the tank capacity is larger than other companies. Compared to Sharp's flagship (KI-PX100) with 4.3L and Daikin's flagship (MCK70Y) with 3.4L, Dyson's PH03 is an amazing 5L. It's big, but the handle is sturdy, so it's easy to carry even after filling it with water.

In addition, it is also a high point that the water tank is used as one of the designs. Domestic manufacturers tend to bring it to the back, but Dyson dares to bring it to the front and it's cool to make use of water as a design. You can see the remaining amount visibly, so it is superior in terms of convenience and design.

Easy to clean! !

As mentioned above, cleaning the humidifier had a troublesome image because of Sharp. It's hard work to disassemble the tank, water tray, and filter, and I don't know how to wash it. More on that later.

network function

Detailed schedule control and information can be obtained by connecting this unit to the network.

Schedule function

You can call up your favorite settings at a preset time or day of the week. For example, you can make a schedule that suits your life, such as weakening the humidification function when you are away at home or on days of the week, or automatically turning on the night mode at your usual bedtime.

intelligence representation

You can check the air quality, PM2.5, PM10, VOC, nitrogen dioxide, temperature, and humidity displayed on the main unit display from anywhere with the app. It also provides outside air information, so you can check whether you are living in a cleaner environment. However, since this information cannot be logged, it cannot be used for logging purposes, so be careful.

Supports Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Siri Shortcuts

Officially supports Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Siri Shortcuts. However, Dyson's commands are subtle and rarely used. Every time I try to use it, the command doesn't come out intuitively, so I end up using the remote control.

Immediately after purchase, it was only compatible with Alexa, but with the recent update, it seems that it is also compatible with Google Assistant, so you can control it from Google Home just by adding Dyson from the Google Home app.

Siri only supports Siri Shortcuts. Homekit is not supported. Unofficially, there seems to be a way to control using Homebridge.

Humidification care

After using it for just one month, I got a cleaning notification on my smartphone. The display on the main unit will also prompt you to clean it. Press the glowing orange button to see an animation of the cleaning procedure. The procedure is displayed on the display, but from here onwards work in water places such as bathrooms and washrooms. In that case, you won't understand the procedure...? I think, but as expected it is Dyson. The explanation of the future is also displayed on the tank.

And the humidifying filter that I was using until a while ago contains plenty of water. However, if you use the tank well, you can drop the filter into the water supply tank and take it to the bathroom without getting the floor wet. Prepare citric acid. I chose Gekiochi-kun because it was the cheapest in Yodobashi. Any citric acid will do. Pour 150g of citric acid and water to MAX as instructed. At this time, citric acid does not dissolve and seems to be OK. All you have to do is put the lid on again and attach the tank to the main body. When you put the filter back in the tank and press the cleaning button, cleaning will start automatically. It is a mechanism to wash by flowing citric acid water dissolved in the tank to the route where water passes. The water in the tank is irradiated with UV-C light, which seems to be hygienic.

When cleaning is finished, you will receive a notification on your smartphone. You'll notice it even if you're in another room. Convenient. After that, rinse the filter and tank with water. What do you think? I was impressed that it was so easy and I didn't get wet. It's so easy that I wonder what the hardships were in the past.

Not humidified...?

By the way, even if the usability and function are good, the essential humidification function is a concern.

The amount of water sprayed per hour, which indicates humidification performance, is 350ml/h.

Compared to Sharp's flagship (KI-PX100) with 1000ml/h and Daikin's flagship (MCK70Y) with 700ml/h, you can see that they are significantly inferior. Therefore, the PH03 is not recommended for large rooms. Officially, the Western-style room is 10 tatami mats, and the Japanese-style room is 6 tatami mats.

However, the author's room is a Western-style room with 8 tatami mats. There is no problem with the official specs, but the humidity is hovering around 40% even when I use it. In the first place, the house I've lived in until now was only occasionally operated, and the humidity was never low enough to require a humidifier all the time. After investigating the cause, it seems that there is a problem with the structure of the house itself.

Is it caused by a highly airtight and highly insulated house?

When I moved in, I was told that "this house is highly airtight and highly insulated, so the door won't open unless you open the ventilation opening a little." Since June 2003, highly airtight and highly insulated houses are designed so that the air in half the room must be replaced every hour in order to prevent sick building syndrome according to the Building Standards Law. Therefore, the air in the room is naturally replaced without doing anything. Therefore, even if the windows and doors are tightly closed, the humidity does not rise because the dry outside air enters.

It also causes the room temperature to drop, so when you try to raise the room temperature with an air conditioner, the temperature in the room rises and the humidity naturally drops, which seems to be a double problem.

verify

Then, if a highly airtight and highly insulated house is the cause of the humidity not rising, create a state where ventilation is not possible. So if the humidity rises, it will not be a problem with the product, but a problem with the structure of the house. However, if there is no change even in that state, it means that the humidification performance of the product is somewhat lacking.

It seems that there are 3 ventilation methods. Type 1 ventilation is a method of supplying air mechanically and exhausting it mechanically. Type 2 ventilation is a method in which air is supplied mechanically and exhausted naturally. And third-class ventilation is a method of supplying air naturally and exhausting it mechanically. In the case of the author's house, it turns out that the third type ventilation system is adopted. Turn off all ventilation fans in the bathroom, toilet, and kitchen.

In the morning, the room is humidified and the heating is turned on, and the heating is turned off when I go to work. Ventilation is working at this point. Although it is slow, you can see that it is being humidified. After returning home, I turned on the heater, so I can see that the humidity has dropped rapidly.

Now turn off all ventilation in the room and block the vents as well. Then, the humidity recovered rapidly in a short time.

 Now you know:

  • PH03 means that it can be humidified well.
  • The house you live in has good air circulation and is a residence that does not have any problems with the Building Standards Act.
  • Heating reduces humidity very quickly, so don't raise the temperature too much.

If you can identify the cause, then you just have to live according to it. (still annoying though)

complain

The plump appearance is subtle. The TP03 that I used before had a stylish, vertically long body, but the PH03 has a large body and isn't that tall, so I think "stumpy" is a suitable expression.

The body should not rotate. The TP03 is designed so that the main body rotates, which is convenient because it allows you to freely change the direction without moving to the main body. Very narrow range. This is a little inconvenient because it is necessary to rotate the entire body.

And the biggest problem with Dyson's air purifier is that the filter is expensive.

In addition to the humidification filter introduced today, it has an air cleaning filter. This is a mechanism to replace in about one year, and this filter is set at about 6,000 yen. Although the cost is bad, the filter is replaced once a year, so there is no need to clean it, and it is also hygienic.

Overall review

A product that has been thoroughly thought out for usability. Although there are sometimes regrettable points, it is a range that can be compromised. However, $631 is a delicate line. I can't recommend it casually because it's expensive, but I can say it's a good product.

To be honest, is it a waste of $631 for a humidifying air purifier? I thought, but when I actually purchased and used it, I realized that it was a product that was thoroughly considered for usability. I don't think a Japanese company would come out with a product like this. The aluminum-like texture is also very complete, and when you take a picture, it seems that you are using real metal. The more you misunderstand.

Ease of cleaning is the main selling point. Cleaning of the troublesome humidifying part is automatic, and the air cleaning filter is disposable. Filter replacement can be easily removed by lowering the levers on both sides. There are not many products that are as easy as this. I think.

However, cost performance is the worst. I know enough about it before I buy it, and I don't think Dyson should buy a new model at the full price, but I couldn't help but get my hands on this product. It's that good.

So far, I have revised the manuscript I wrote a year ago, but when I was walking around Yodobashi, I got information that it was on sale and it was a little cheaper. Even if you buy it directly, it's $506, and Yodobashi is $505.51 . Why don't you consider it?
